Search Hints
When performing a search, the website will return all records whose start matches the criteria you enter. For example, entering Smith will return not only all Smith's, but Smithson, Smithers, etc.

It is possible to conduct more complicated searches by using the wildcard '%'. For example, enter '%smith' would return Blacksmith, Smith and Smithers.

When searching by name, to limit the search, enter criteria in the format 'Smith John'

Searching for a parcel by Legal Description can be frustrating as legal descriptions are taken from deeds and are not always entered in a consistent format. Use one of the other search methods if you can.

Searching for parcels by Subdivision will work only for subdivisions recorded after 11/5/2001.

The more records that match your search criteria, the longer it takes so be as specific and complete as you can when entering criteria.

Case is never important in a search."Smith","smith","SMITH" and "sMiTh" are all the same.

My permit search didn't return the permits I expected
When the website search page opens, it is set by default to search for ZONING permits. If you want to search for another type, for example BUILDING permits, be sure to select the proper type before starting your search.

What is the format of Permit numbers?
Permit numbers use a 10 character base. The first 4 characters represent the year,e.g., 2003 in permit number 2003051169. The next 6 characters are the base permit number (note that a left 0 is used to pad the number to 6 characters for numbers less than 100,000. Building type permits may also have additional letter characters following the 10 base characters. No letter indicates a 'Building' permit. 'C' is used for Commercial Electrical permits, etc. Additional numeric characters following either the base number or the letter code indicate modified versions of the original permit. Note that different types of permits may have the same number, so be sure you select the correct permit type for searches.

Why isn't the permit available for printing?
Generally, only permits issued after March 10, 2004 will be available for printing. Note that the copies printed from this web site are not "Official". Official copies may be obtained only from the Central Permitting Office at the Brunswick County Government Center.

"Pop-Up Stoppers"
Certain features of this web site, e.g., the calendars in the Final Inspection/CO report and the printable permit copy, are implemented as pop-ups. If you use pop-up stopper or ad blocker software, you will need to disable or override the blocking action to view these features. Most ad blocking software can be temporarily disabled by holding down either the shift key or the control key while the pop-up window opens. Consult the documentation for your particular software.

How do I schedule an inspection?
Inspections should be scheduled one day in advance. Inspections may be scheduled by telephoning the Building Inspections Department at 910-253-2050 or via this website. To schedule an inspection via the website, select "Inspections...Schedule an Inspection" from the menu. You will need the Permit Number and the type of inspection that you want to schedule. Individual are required to enter an authorization code which consists of six alphabetic characters and is printed on the "official" permit copy you received when you applied for the permit. Licensed contractors may use either the above authorization code or their license number.
